Discovering new places

Sowohl in Dresden als auch in Terrassa haben wir die Gelegenheit gehabt, neue Orte zu erkunden, die ein Bezug zu den Themen der internationalen Begegnung hatten. Die Ausflüge dauerten jeweils einen Tag in jedem Teil des Austauschs. Im März ging es um die Sorbische Kultur, ein Thema das für viele Teilnehmende neu war. Die Gruppe ist nach Bautzen gefahren, wo nach einem Picknick ein Besuch des Sorbischen Hauses und ein Gespräch mit unterschiedlichen Referent*innen geführt wurde. Die Teilnehmenden haben mehr über eine andere Sprache, eine andere Kultur und eine andere Identität erfahren, da die sorbische Sprache keine germanische Sprache ist und die Traditionen der sorbischen Kultur sehr besonders sind.

In Spanien war unser Ausflug eine kleine Reise in drei Episoden… wir sind sogar über die Grenze nach Frankreich gefahren! Erster Stopp war das Museo Memorial de l´Exili, wo wir mehr über den spanischen Bürgerkrieg, die Geflüchteten aus Spanien und Katalonien während des Krieges und der Diktatur und den politischen Widerstand erfahren haben. Danach sind wir nach Frankreich gefahren und haben zwei Gedenkstätte besucht. Zuerst das Internierungslager Argelès-sur-Mer, wo sowohl zivile als auch militärische Geflüchtete interniert worden sind. Anschließend haben wir als drittes das Elna Geburtshaus (Maternitat d´Elna), das an die mutigen Aktionen der Krankenpflegerin Elisabeth Eidenbetz erinnert hat. Während der Zeit der Franco Diktatur und des zweiten Weltkriegst hat sie das Haus für die Frauen in dem Internierungslager Argelès-sur-Mer, die bald ein Kind bekommen würden, betreut.

We had the opportunity to visit new places during our stay in Dresden and Terrassa, as we took part in two daily trips. In March, we explored the topic of Sorbs Culture, which was pretty new for many of the participants. The group went to Bautzen, a city about an hour from Dresden, and started the daily trip by enjoying a picnic. After that, we visited the Sorbisches Haus, a museum about Sorbs Culture, where he had enough time to meet with different speakers and attend a few talks. That meant discovering a new language, a new culture und a new identity: Sorbs´ language is actually not a Germanic language and the traditions of the Sorbs are also quite special.

Our daily trip in Spain consisted of three episodes… we even had the chance to cross the border to the neighbour country, France! Our first stop was the Museo Memorial de l´Exili, where we learnt more about the history of the Spanish Civil War, the dictatorship and the political resistance against Franco´s system (Franquismo). Later on, we visited two memorial places: First, the Camp de concentration d'Argelès-sur-Mer (Concentration camp Argelès-sur-Mer), where civil and military refugees from Catalonia and Spain were interned. Afterwards, we went to the Maternitat d´Elna , a memorial that remembers the brave actions of the nurse Elisabeth Eidenbetz. She founded a birth house, were women from the Argelès-sur-Mer camp could give birth in safe and good conditions during the unstable times of the Franco Dictatorship and the Second World War.
